The Iroquois are a people whose history is steeped in folklore and legend. Author Mason Winfield digs deep within this fascinating culture and uncovers the secrets behind the legends. False Faces, Witch Lights, and Little People are only a few of the myths he examines while he immerses himself in the Iroquois community. Little does he know that his research will lead him to an ancient Iroquois burial ground and an exorcism that went horribly wrong.

One of North America's largest dune fields is explored: the Imperial Sand Dunes National Recreation Area. California's Algodones Dunes, stretch across 200-plus square miles, and are visited by more than 1.4 million people yearly--most using some sort of off-road vehicle. A state highway splits part of the dune field between wilderness and recreational area, but the task of monitoring usage is challenging. In contrast, Mexico's Gran Desierto Dunes are characterized by magnificent isolation. These dunes lie within a biosphere reserve, and are further protected from crowds by a nearly inaccessible road, built essentially from well-placed trash and old tires. This dune system is known for unique formations, created by the constantly shifting winds; and how native plants adapt to unpredictable gusts. Finally, Utah's Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is visited, to learn what stories can be told by animal tracks in the sand.

In 1970, a team of researchers at Corning Glass made a discovery that would revolutionize the way people communicate. Their development of a fiber optic cable was one step in an ongoing process of research and experimentation in a number of diverse fields of study. More than 30 years later, fiber optics is a technology that nearly outgrew itself, but one that is an almost omnipresent element of modern communication. Just about every international phone call made relies on fiber optics somewhere along the way, and newly developed high-bandwidth cables have even allowed scientists to recreate the sense of touch via the Internet, and to perform remote tele-surgeries across continents. The brilliance, foresight, challenges, and sheer luck that have led to the proliferation of the worldwide network of fiber optic cables, and the revolution of global communications, are examined.

Over the trenches of WW I, the "eye in the sky" had been indispensable. Since then,
developers have worked endlessly to make planes harder to spot and shoot down. Speed worked at first, then the ability to fly high, but each advance was eventually met by a counter-advance that all but neutralized it. Until, that is, the birth of the computer. With the computer age came avionics-systems to control planes that humans could never fly. These systems, combined with new materials, designs and paints, as well as the unwavering commitment and singular vision of men like Skunk Works' Ben Rich, gave rise to the most recent revolution in military aviation-stealth planes. These planes are all but invisible to enemy eyes. Stealth technology has transformed warfare, and together with ever-advanced precision ordnance and purely autonomous planes, has positioned the world's most advanced air forces for a future where in-cockpit pilots may no longer be necessary. Final program in a 4-part series.

Between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes are remains of pre-Incan cultures, with vast rock art sites, colossal effigies etched into the desert, and burial sites that lay under the arid land for centuries. A bird's-eye view of the famed Nazca lines shows mysterious drawings in the desert floor, astonishing in their creativity and size; with images of hummingbirds, monkeys, and parrots hundreds of feet long, and perfectly proportioned, featuring geometric shapes extendingr miles. Theories abound about why and how these images were created. Also, spiral structures that provided access to the labyrinth of underground canals and aqueducts used by the Nazcans for irrigation are examined. Arequipa, a former colonial capital of the Spanish, was built on an ancient Incan site. The trip ends at a burial ground on the shores of a high Andean lake used for millennia, and demonstrates incredible stone-carving abilities of the Incas.
