(DVS)
Mole is a popular and versatile sauce used in Mexican cuisine that can be made of spices, chiles, and even raisins--its main ingredient, chocolate, adds a rich depth and subtle sweetness. Ming's Asian Mole blends dried cranberries for tang, and ginger for heat that makes his Grilled Rib-Eye with Corn Salad and Mole mouth-watering. To learn more about this sweet and spicy juxtaposition, Ming visits chef Erwin Ramos at his restaurant, Ole Mexican Grille in Cambridge, MA for a primer on the essentials of a traditional mole. Back in the studio, guest chef Ted Allen, creates a dish inspired by Ming's mole.

Host Kevin O'Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram reveal plans to build a new prefab, eco-friendly home that will look and feel like an old barn. Homeowners Amy and Pete Favat love their land, but have outgrown their 1970s-era home, so they'll deconstruct the old house to make way for a new one that will meet the needs of their active family. Custom homebuilder Tedd Benson and his staff are designing and prefabricating the new state-of-the-art timberframe home, with general contractor Tom Silva pulling it all together on site. To see how Tedd's panelized system looks in the field, Norm and Tedd visit a recent project in Center Harbor, New Hampshire. Back in Weston, Tom works with deconstruction contractor John Grossman to take the old house apart by hand, in a way that saves landfill space, and allows the reuse of building materials.

The heart of Argentine wine country is nestled in a valley beneath the snow-capped Andes whose iconic summit, Aconcagua, is the highest in the Western hemisphere. Glacial runoff from the mountain range feeds the miles of vineyards that, along with fruit and vegetable farms, blanket the lowlands. Rudy drives into the thin air of the Andes, visiting the graveyard of those who died trying to summit Aconcagua. His choice for high-altitude adventure: getting soaked while whitewater rafting. Back at sea level, he meets winemakers whose well-priced and elegant Malbecs are shaking up the world's wine market. A lunch of grilled meats prepared by gauchos in the middle of a vineyard is a reminder that the cowboy life is very much alive in this stunning region. (11 of 13)

Environmentalist Gabriel Scott believes he's found the remains of the SS Portland, a steamship carrying 68 miners and nearly two tons of gold from the Klondike River, to the Seattle harbor--which began the great Klondike Gold Rush of 1897. A man in Paris, KY, owns a saddle believed to have been used by Confederate general, John Hunt Morgan, on his famous raid into Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. A San Francisco owns an old banner which may have been carried at the head of the famous Delano Grape Boycott march, led by Cesar Chavez, in 1966. The importance of art in one of the most famous civil rights campaigns in U.S. history is investigated.

(11 of 13)

Lyvedon Manor is both a source of pride and a financial drain for Martin Frazer and his wife, Suzanne. Martin, a barrister, hires Rosemary Boxer and Laura Thyme (Felicity Kendal and Pam Ferris) to restore his walled garden, which has fallen into disrepair. It's a big job, but there is a ready source of cheap labor--the inmates of the local prison. Rosemary is nervous about working with ex-cons, and her suspicions are confirmed when Martin's cousin, Jim, is found drowned in a nearby river. As Laura and Rosemary struggle to bring the garden back to life, events take a mysterious turn when, just before the Coroner's Inquest into his death, cousin Jim is seen alive again! First program in a 2-part story, which represents the first 2 programs in a 9-part season.

Ireland in the extreme is best experienced on its west coast in Gaeltachts, where the people speak Gaelic, and the rugged villages have changed little over the generations. After exploring the rugged and remote Aran Islands, visitors settle into Galway, dance in a castle at a medieval folk banquet, and delve into Ireland in the extreme: Dingle Peninsula, with its ringing traditional music from its rustic pubs, and numerous prehistoric "fairy forts."

(11 of 13)

What's Sof-scaping? Plainly said, it's anything that's not hardscape in the garden. But certain types of plants are better at softening than others. Gardening correspondent Paul Epsom visits a specialty grass nursery in New Hampshire to see some best bets; there, he learns how grasses are year-round showstoppers. Host Jamie Durie visits the world-famous Filoli gardens in northern California to learn how good plant choices are used to soften design. Resident chef Michel Nischan shares a not-to-be-missed recipe for green, hard-to-ripen tomatoes left in the garden.
