In historic Cambridge, MA, the crew starts work on a mid-century modern house for biotech bachelor, George Mabry. At the project house near Harvard Square, host Kevin O'Connor and master carpenter Norm Abram discover that George's house is the sleeper on a street of renovated beauties. Problems include water damage, structural issues, failing plumbing, and an outdated floor plan that locates the master bedroom near the front door. The kitchen, renovated 13 years ago, and many aspects of the landscape, will stay. General contractor Tom Silva inspects the failing 50-year old tar and gravel roof with Kevin, while plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey shows the house's original boiler and early radiant heat system, both of which are still in use, to Norm. Despite concerns about working in a congested city neighborhood, the team is up for the challenge, and the change of pace, of working on This Old House's first modern home.

In Jerusalem, author Bruce Feiler begins his 10,000-mile odyssey to explore the greatest stories ever told--in the settings where they occurred, in this strife-torn region of the world, where archaeological evidence is hard to find. He teams up with archaeologist and co-adventurer Avner Goren. By foot, jeep, rowboat, and train, Feiler and Goren set out to experience the Bible's world. First, they visit the banks of the Tigris and Euphrates--the Garden of Eden. Then, they climb Mt. Ararat, in search of Noah's ark; and travel to the ancient town where some believe Abraham was born; then to the ancient ruins of Harran, where the Bible says God tells Abraham to "go forth" to the Promised Land. Feiler and Goren stop to explore the sulfurous land by the Dead Sea, with its salt pillars called "Lot's wife." Could this be evidence of Sodom and Gomorrah? At Jerusalem's sacred Temple Mount, it's believed Abraham brought his son, Isaac, and prepared to follow God's ultimate test of faith. First program of three.

Bruce Feiler continues his journey through the greatest stories ever told, by retracing Joseph's path to Egypt, after his brothers sell him into bondage. When Joseph interprets the Pharaoh's dreams, he rises from slave to the heights of power, and even brings his brothers and father, Jacob, to live in Egypt. Feiler travels from the great temple of Karnak in Luxor, formerly ancient Thebes, to the pyramids and sphinx of Giza, to the royal burial tombs in the Valley of the Kings. As he treks by camel, boat, horseback, and foot, he discovers how the ancient Egyptian culture and religion influenced the Israelites during their centuries-long stay in Egypt. Beginning at the shallow waters of the Nile, Feiler retraces the story of one of the Bible's greatest figures, Moses, and his eventual confrontation with the Pharaoh, and the command to let his people go. Did the Israelites build the pyramids? What could have caused the 10 plagues? Was it really the Red Sea that Moses crossed? Second of 3 programs.
