This overwhelming body of evidence leads our investigators to ask, "If it's not aliens, what is it?" The trade route of El Camino Real (The Royal Road) served as an interchange of cultures and riches for the Puebloan people, hundreds of years before Europeans arrived. The route sewed together the Spanish strongholds in southern Mexico to the distant settlements of Nuevo (New) Mexico. A 3-part journey is taken, along this historic route of communication, conquest and gold, from Mexico City through the Chihuahuan Desert, to the mountains of Santa Fe, NM. The journey begins at the Basilica of Guadalupe, in Mexico City, considered to be the most religious site in Mexico. The jungle landscape is visited, along with ornate buildings of the ancient settlement, Tepotzlan, and Aztec ruins of Tula. Queretero is a city known for its Romanesque aqueduct system. A subterranean drainage system has been turned into roads in the mining town of Guanajuato, known as a hotbed of Mexican independence from Spain.

Japanese House--Gilroy, CA: How did an authentic Japanese house become part of the famed San Francisco World's Fair, in a time just preceding World War II, and just before Japanese internment camps were established? Poems--San Francisco, CA: In the first half of the 20th century, Chinese immigrants tried to enter the U.S. Because of discrimination, and laws meant to impede their passage, most were detained and interrogated on Angel Island, America's west coast immigration center. In the second part of the journey along the ancient highway, the traditional hot springs of Aguas Calientes gave the ancient traveler a brief respite from the dry, dusty roads. While the springs no longer exist, the town still marks the boundary between the lush, green landscape behind; and the dry, dangerous desert frontier that looms ahead. The first stop in the desert is the mining town of Zacatecas. The camera travels deep into the bowels of the gold and silver mines; and a ride high above is taken, in a cable car. Other desert stops include the agricultural, commercial, and tourist center of Durango, originally founded as a mining town in 1563, and the towns of Mapami and Valle de Allende.

In the early fifties, Mercedes-Benz created the 300SL as a way of recapturing its pre-war racing glory. The 300SL was first put to the test in 1952. It lost its first race to a Ferrari--but went on to win, around the world. A New York businessman convinced Mercedes-Benz to make a street version of the SL racer, backing up his request with 1,000 orders. But only 1,400 people were willing to pay $10,000 dollars for this radically styled Gullwing car. Eventually, the more conventional convertible roadster replaced the Gullwing. Regardless of the design, the Mercedes-Benz SL series will always remain a striking interpretation of a sports car.
