They also stop in the city of Calafate, the gateway to Glacier National Park, and observe a local folklore performance group dancing and making music. The highlight of the trip is a close up look at the park's magnificent glaciers. A Las Vegas man owns an old Continental Armymuster roll issued by the town of Falmouth, MA, in 1780. Among the 16 men listed is "Paul Cuffee." The contributor wants to know if this could be evidence of an unknown episode in the life of Cuffee, a remarkable African American who was a whaling captain, shipbuilder, and early advocate of the "Back to Africa" movement. And why was a baseball field in Atlantic City, NJ, named after an African-American ballplayer in a time of intense racial tension? John Henry "Pop" Lloyd was a famed shortstop in the Negro Leagues. The film tells the personal stories of rural women who make their way to Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa, seeking treatment for obstetric fistula, a life-shattering complication of childbirth that was once common in the pre-industrial United States but that is now relegated to the poorest regions of the world. World-renowned climber and filmmaker David Breashears, who aided the rescue efforts back in 1996, now returns to Everest to tell the fuller story of what really happened on that legendary climb. Through remarkably intimate interviews with the climbers and Sherpas--many who have never spoken before on American television--Breashears sheds new light on the worst climbing tragedy in Mount Everest's history.
