In the second part of the journey along the ancient highway, the traditional hot springs of Aguas Calientes gave the ancient traveler a brief respite from the dry, dusty roads. While the springs no longer exist, the town still marks the boundary between the lush, green landscape behind; and the dry, dangerous desert frontier that looms ahead. The first stop in the desert is the mining town of Zacatecas. The camera travels deep into the bowels of the gold and silver mines; and a ride high above is taken, in a cable car. Other desert stops include the agricultural, commercial, and tourist center of Durango, originally founded as a mining town in 1563, and the towns of Mapami and Valle de Allende.

For decades, hopes for alleviating global warming have fallen to the development of "renewable" energies like wind and solar power. These are energy producers that do not use coal, gas or other carbon-based fuels that are the main reason our planet's surface is warming a little bit more every year. The most promising renewable has always been solar power. However, even with decades of solar power research, scientists still don't know if it's a reliable source of electricity.
