In a gloomy cave, perched high in a canyon near the Dead Sea, archaeologists made a startling discovery in 1960: a bag containing letters written on papyrus nearly 2,000 years ago. The letters were written by one of the great figures of Jewish history, the rebel Bar-Kokhba, who led a heroic guerilla uprising against the Romans. Biblical scholar Richard Freund returns to the cave with the latest archaeological techniques, hoping to find more traces of Bar-Kokhba's epic struggle. Instead, Freund comes up with tantalizing new finds that lead him to a radical and controversial theory. Could the treasure concealed in the cave be a long-lost relic of the great temple in Jerusalem destroyed by the Romans? Freund's is a fascinating detective hunt that plunges him into the heated scholarly debates of Biblical archaeology.

This episode discusses America's latest epidemic, obesity. While 20% of adults are clinically obese, now 25% of children are too, and the proportion is steadily increasing. What shape will Americans be in within a decade or so? The program looks at research on fad diets; on the real relationships between activity and weight; on how well-meaning mothers teach their kids to overeat; on how obese research subjects bend the truth about what they eat; and on the movement of Native Americans, suffering from widespread obesity-related diabetes, to get back to traditional wild food diets.

Biblical scholar Richard Freund returns to the cave with the latest archaeological techniques, hoping to find more traces of Bar-Kokhba's epic struggle. Black Star Line Stock Certificates: A North Carolina woman found two stock certificates, purchased by her great grandfather in 1919. What looked like a Marcus Garvey signature on the papers saved them. Garvey founded the steamship company through his United Negro Improvement Association. He fought for African American economic self-reliance and political self-determination. Mickey Mouse's Origin: Popular history has it that Mickey Mouse was born from a drawing sketched on a napkin by Walt Disney, in 1928. A San Francisco toy collector believes his small mouse figurine may turn the legend on its ears. With a patent label that says "Pat. Aug. 17, 1926," the figure appears to have been produced 2 years before Disney created Mickey Mouse. Pro-Nazi Newspaper: A Hearne, TX, resident heard rumors that a WWII German POW camp was based in her town. A tiny printing block just may hold the key to this mystery.

Chef George Schenk learns how to tap maple trees for their sugar, and joins farmer Easty Long in making maple syrup--a secret ingredient in the chef's renowned Flatbread pizza. Recipes: Flatbread Maple Syrup Tomato Sauce; Flatbread with Organic Sausage; Smoked Salmon & Asparagus Flatbread; and Raspberry-Maple Syrup Vinaigrette. For each program in this 13-part season, the chefs featured in each episode act as "hosts," going from the kitchen to the farm--and back again. Jed Duvall, former CBS News Sunday Morning and ABC news correspondent, is the narrator who unifies each episode. Guest chefs select fresh, local ingredients for a signature dish they prepare. The origins of food sources are explored, traced from the fields, forests, waters, and farms of the U.S., to show the benefits of natural and sustainable food systems--for a difference in the way foods taste, and in their nutritional value.
