In 1995 she was the first recipient of Soul Train's Lady of Soul Award for jazz album of the year for Twenty-One, and in 1996 was the first woman to win the Danish Jazzpar prize. A note says the doll once belonged to a former slave of Confederate general Robert E. Lee. Her grandson explores the story behind General Lee's relationship with slavery. Ballet Shoes: A young ballet dancer in Long Island, NY, learns that her deceased grandfather once made ballet shoes for top dancers in the 1920s and 30s, including Ziegfeld stars. Her grandma says "Master Michele" created superb dance shoes on 42nd Street, with apprentice Salvatore Capezio, who became one of the world's most famous ballet shoe designers. The strip relates the story of Pete Gray, the first one-armed major league baseball player, who later became an icon for disabled WWII veterans. As she moves the last of her things into his house, Howard declares he's the happiest man alive. Back at work, at the Viking Veterinary Surgery, Trude's first patient is a 10-week-old guinea pig called Munchkin. His owner, Teresa Godfrey, explains that he broke his leg when he fell from the breakfast bar into the dog's basket. Trude decides surgery is the only hope of trying to save the leg.

Journalist/Author, Frank Aukofer discusses his book, "City with a Chance" with Host Jim Peck. Aukofer is the retired Washington Bureau chief of The Milwaukee Journal and its successor, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He worked as a reporter for the newspaper for 40 years, and covered the civil rights movement in Milwaukee and elsewhere in the country in the 1960s.
