MPTV Channel Realignment
Effective September 1st
This change does not affect viewers with cable or satellite. Viewers with converter boxes or digital televisions will need to rescan. Please refer to your owner’s manual for instructions.
To better serve viewers, Milwaukee Public Television is reorganizing its channel lineup. MPTV channels will not be dropped, simply moved.
Since the transition to all-digital television last year, some viewers have experienced difficulty receiving MPTV 10.1.
Milwaukee Public Television will have a new channel line-up starting Wednesday, September 1, 2010. Instructions on how to find our new channels for over-the-air (OTA) viewers.
Why?
MPTV 10.1 is the only full-power Milwaukee TV station broadcasting in the VHF (Very High Frequency) range of 30-300 megahertz. All other full-power Milwaukee stations, including MPTV 36.1 operate in the UHF, or Ultra High Frequency, band.
Viewers without a combined UHF/VHF antenna, properly installed and placed, generally have trouble receiving MPTV 10.1.
With the changes below, viewers having trouble receiving MPTV 10.1, will now be able to watch all their favorite MPTV 10.1 broadcasts, simulcast on MPTV 36.2.
| Currently | Beginning September 1 |
|---|---|
| 10.1 MPTV HD | 10.1 MPTV HD |
| 36.1 MPTV Digital | 10.2 MPTV World |
| 36.2 MPTV Vme | 10.3 MPTV V-me |
| 36.3 MPTV World | 10.4 MPTV Weather |
| 36.4 MPTV Create | 36.1 MPTV-36 |
| 36.5 MPTV Classical | 36.2 MPTV-10 (simulcast; not HD) |
| 36.6 MPTV Jazz | 36.3 MPTV Create |
| 36.7 MPTV Weather | 36.4 MPTV Classical |
| 36.8 MPTV Traffic | 36.5 MPTV Jazz |
| 36.6 MPTV Traffic |
Programs on MPTV 10.1 will be delivered in high definition (HD); MPTV 36.2 will be standard definition (SD).
In early 2011, MPTV 36.1 will upgrade to a High Definition signal. With these changes, we are also able to free up the additional “space” by moving a few of our multicast channels to the MPTV 10-tier.
