MPTV Community Cinema: FREEDOM WALKERS OF MILWAUKEE

Thursday, May 5, 2011 / 6:30 pm

This half-hour documentary produced by MPTV's Everett Marshburn shares the experiences of local citizens who participated in the turbulent 1960s that changed the United States.

Join the discussion with some of the film's participants: Peggy Rozga, widow of Fr. James Groppi, and Clayborn Benson, director of the Wisconsin Black Historical Society.

This preview event includes a sneak peek of the American Experience production of FREEDOM RIDERS. An integrated band of college students decided to risk everything and buy a ticket on a Greyhound bus bound for the Deep South. They called themselves the Freedom Riders, and they managed to bring the president and the American public face-to-face with the challenge of correcting civil rights inequities.

Broadcast: FREEDOM WALKERS OF MILWAUKEE premieres on May 16 at 6:30 p.m. on MPTV 10.1 HD.
