The
entry taking first place in each grade will be forwarded for judging
in the national competition. Reading Rainbow, the contest’s
national sponsor, is now in its 22nd. season. The Emmy-Award winning,
half-hour series focuses on children and literature.
National
prizewinners will receive a library set of 10 Reading Rainbow
episodes on DVD and related feature books. All local winners receive
pins and a gift bag filled with tapes, gift certificates, books
and other prizes at a special awards reception at MPTV in May.
Every
participant will receive a Certificate of Participation signed
by the program’s host, La Var Burton.
Local winning stories will be videotaped and aired between children’s
programs on MPTV 10 and 36. In addition, their authors will be
invited to make on-air promotional messages about the stories.
MPTV
stories that were not selected by the judges will be returned
by or before May 23, 2005. The story return is accomplished one
grade level at a time starting with kindergarten entries.
Please
remember that every story written and illustrated by a child is
wonderful in its own way. That story will be the real treasure
that may be enjoyed for many years to come.
(Deadline
for the twelfth MPTV Reading Rainbow Contest is March 6, 2006.)
