April 30, 2013

This Year, Entries Increased by 150% from Last Year

Milwaukee Public Television has announced the 20 local winners of the 2013 PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, a competition for children in kindergarten through grade three.

Milwaukee Public Television has sponsored the contest for 19 years in southeastern Wisconsin. This year a total of 903 original, illustrated books were submitted, up from 619 entries in 2012.

The first place entries in each grade level will be submitted to the contest's national level, where they will compete for a variety of prizes including a tablet computer, e-readers and MP3 players. Local winners will receive gift certificates to an electronics store, a book store, or local arts supply store - Artist and Display.

An MPTV awards reception will be held for the recipients in mid-June at the studios of MPTV. The winners also will see their stories produced as a program and aired this summer on MPTV HD 10.1 and MPTV HD 36.1.

A special award will also be presented at the reception. The MPTV Education Award will recognize an entrant's talents and potential with a one-week summer art class at Artist and Display in Milwaukee. This year's recipients of this award are Caleb W.
