Clifford Book Drive Begins
September 27, 2007
Milwaukee Public Television will hold its second annual children's book drive Oct. 22-27. The books will be given to family centers, agencies and schools to distribute free of charge to the children they serve.
MPTV is encouraging individuals as well as schools, clubs, churches and other organizations to participate in the drive. They are being asked to collect new or gently used books appropriate for children ages 12 and under.
Donors are asked to box the books and deliver them to MPTV, 1036 N. Eighth St., Milwaukee, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. They can also deliver them to the MPTV Friends Auction Site, 12560 W. Townsend St., Brookfield, Monday through Friday, Oct. 22-26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The site will be closed Saturday, Oct. 27.
MPTV's 50th anniversary open house will be at the station from noon to 3 p.m. on the final day of the book drive, Saturday, Oct. 27. Families are encouraged to bring a book to donate to the book drive, visit with Elmo and Cookie Monster from Sesame Street, and tour the station. The event is free and open to the public.
Clifford The Big Red Dog, a popular PBS children's series, airs on MPTV-10 Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. The book drive, which represents the station's commitment to children and family literacy efforts, replaced MPTV's Mister Rogers' Sweater Drive last year.
