Adelante! Receives Awards
November 1, 2007
Patricia Gomez, host of Milwaukee Public Television's weekly program for Latinos--¡Adelante!--will receive an award from the Wisconsin Hispanic Lawyers Association for demonstrating courage and leadership regarding legal issues affecting Hispanics on Thursday, Nov. 8.
The award, La Blanca Rosa (The White Rose), recognizes individuals who have advanced principles important to the association, such as access to justice, interpreters in the justice system, and diversity. Earlier in the year, Gomez was recognized for the work of ¡Adelante! with Wisconsin youth by The Other America Tour of the American Civil Liberties' Union.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children also awarded her a certificate of appreciation this year for her program's advocacy on behalf of country's 163,000 Latino children who are missing each year.
Gomez has been cited by Milwaukee's Shepherd Express newspaper for making ¡Adelante! into one of the Midwest's best Latino shows for its focus on education, social justice and culture.
¡Adelante! airs in Spanish with open captioning (subtitles) in English. Program segments originally taped in English are captioned in Spanish. ¡Adelante! began its ninth season in September. Patricia Gomez is the host and producer. The program airs weekly on Tuesdays on MPTV-10 at 6:30 p.m. and repeats on Channel 36 Sundays at 5:30 p.m.
