IR Marks Goldmann's Closing
November 6, 2007
Goldmann's, the oldest independent department store in Wisconsin, will be the topic on I Remember Monday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. on Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV-10).
Host Jim Peck interviews Milt Pivar, the co-owner of Goldmann's, a well-known Milwaukee institution and a fixture on the city's south side. The store, which closed its doors Sept. 28 after 111 years on Mitchell Street, became a destination for generations of shoppers.
A lunch counter, clothing for men, women and children, racks of shoes, fabric and other merchandise as well as size-72 belts and other hard-to-find items made the store a one-stop shop for many customers. Long-time employees Pivar and Jerry Lewis bought the store from the Goldmann family in the late 1980s. The program also includes comments from several other long-time employees.
I Remember is simulcast on MPTV-HD (MPTV-36-1 and Time-Warner Cable 510).The host for I Remember is talk show veteran Jim Peck, currently a senior advancement officer at Marquette University.
