February 29, 2008
Milwaukee Public Television will offer a 90-minute broadcast of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra's performance of Symphony No. 2 in C minor by Gustav Mahler, Wednesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 23, at 1:30 p.m. on MPTV-10 and MPTV-HD.
The monumental symphony, for large orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists, was written between 1888 and 1894. It is known as the Resurrection. Mahler searches for the meaning of life, of love, and of death. He takes the listener on an exciting musical journey that culminates in an exhilarating final movement where he presents his answer to the age old question.
Andreas Delfs, MSO music director, conducts. Lee Erickson is chorus director for the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus. The MPTV broadcast production was recorded in 2007. Bill Werner is the producer and director.
