A music festival featuring artists from across the world will premiere on Milwaukee Public Television Thursday, April 17, at 9 p.m. The event was presented by Alverno College at Humboldt Park in Milwaukee last September.

Music from Global Union includes performances by musicians from Africa, Central Europe, Latin America, East Asia, and the Middle East. Among them are 17 Hippies, an Eastern European band with Klezmer-like instrumentation; Dobet Ghahore, a singer-songwriter-percussionist from West Africa's Ivory Coast, and Zemog El Gallo Bueno, who offers 21st Century Latin Music.

Other artists performing in the free concert are Huong Thanh & Nguyen Le Quartet from Vietnam; Lekan Babalola, Nigeria; Haale, an Iranian American vocalist & band; Ismail Lumanovski & The NY Gypsy All-Stars, Macedonia, and Roberto Rodriguez and Maurice El Medioni, Cuba and Algeria. All are represented in the television program.

Alverno sponsors the Global Union festival as part of its educational mission and its dedication to the arts and the world community. The event is a joint collaboration with the Chicago World Music Festival and the UW-Madison World Music Festival.

Music from Global Union is an MPTV production. Raul Galvan is the executive producer.
