Captures Telly Award
A Milwaukee Public Television program focusing on renowned trumpeter Jon Faddis, has won a prestigious national award.
Jon Faddis Quartet Plus 2 received a 2007 Bronze Telly statuette for outstanding achievement.
Cedarburg resident Tom Dvorak is the executive producer. The Telly Awards, now in its 28th year, chooses the best of more than 12,000 local, regional, and cable television productions entries.
The program premiered in May, 2007, and was recorded at the Cedarburg Performing Arts Center March 9, 2007. The Jon Faddis Quartet is featured, including Faddis (leader & trumpet), Milwaukee native David Hazeltine (piano), Todd Coolman (bass), and Dion Parson (drums) along with two special guests, African drummers Alioune Faye and Abdou Mboup.
Faddis' distinctive sound has appeared on hundreds of records and soundtracks for film and television. His 2006 release, TERANGA, was a New York Times' Critic's Choice and Jazzreview described it as "absolutely brilliant." His friend and mentor, Dizzy Gillespie, has said of Faddis, "He's the best ever, including me!"
