MPTV Outreach Project Honored
May 27, 2008
Outreach supervisor Darlyne Haertlein has received a merit award for Milwaukee Public Television's Vacation Station Project in the annual Paragon Awards competition sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America.
Vacation Station supports summer reading programs at local libraries by providing opportunities and incentives that encourage children 6 to 12 years of age to read, learn and create. The project, now in its 14th year, publishes 35,000 copies of a children's magazine, organizes art and other contests, and conducts related activities.
Haertlein is a 15-year veteran of outreach work with a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She has received a number of honors including The 2006 Women Putting Their Stamp on Metro Milwaukee Award, Literacy Award for 2000 from the National Council of Teachers of English and The New York Festivals 2000 Bronze World Medal.
