IR Hosts Anselmo Vilarreal

June 1, 2008

Anselmo Villarreal, a leader of Waukesha's Latino community and co-author of a book about the city's Latinos, will be the guest on Milwaukee Public Television's I Remember Monday, June 9, on MPTV-10 at 6:30 p.m.

Villarreal is the executive director of La Casa de Esperanza, a non-profit organization that has been providing services from day care to job training and housing assistance since the 1960s. The social service agency has been honored by the National Council of La Raza and also has been recognized by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The book, "Latinos in Waukesha," was co-authored by Villarreal and another community leader, Walter Sava. The Arcadia publication highlights a heritage dating back to the area's first Latino settlers, as well as the culture of the community today. The book includes historic photographs of families and also chronicles the story of La Casa de Esperanza.

The host for I Remember is talk show veteran Jim Peck, currently a senior advancement officer at Marquette University.
