MPTV Schedules Memorial Day Weekend Specials

Milwaukee, WI - MPTV 10 & 10.1 and 36 & 36.1 will broadcast special programs over the Memorial Day Weekend to commemorate the uniformed men and women who have given service and sacrifice to the United States of America. Local production I REMEMBER will look at the FBI's ongoing fight against terrorism.

Sunday, May 24th, 2009 - 7:00 pm - MPTV 10.1 HD & 10
NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT
PBS unites the nation in honor of all of America's men and women in uniform for their service and sacrifice with this 20th anniversary presentation. Gary Sinise (CSI NY) and Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna (Criminal Minds) host. Both have dedicated themselves to veterans' causes and troops in active service. Broadcast from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., this special features a mix of dramatic readings, documentary footage and live musical performances, along with an all-star line-up of dignitaries, actors and musical artists and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Erich Kunzel. LOST AND FOUND: LEGACY OF USS LAGARTO
The USS Lagarto was one of 28 submarines built by the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Company during World War II. Weeks before the end of the war in May 1945, it sank in the Gulf of Thailand. The sub was lost in the Pacific Ocean for over sixty years, until May 2005 when it was discovered. Exclusive underwater footage reveals fascinating images of the Lagarto sitting upright in 225 feet of water. (60 min)

Each Memorial Day, thousands of people gather at Hawaii's Ala Moana Beach to pray for those who have passed away. Illuminated paper lanterns are released into the ocean in memory of loved ones, creating a grieving process that is beautifully captured in this documentary. (30 min)

His charming buddy, Matthew, who barely survived, brings the war home. Through Jonathan's handwritten words and videotape, the film tells a personal and profound story. (60 min)

Host Jim Peck interviews Richard K. Ruminski, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Milwaukee Field Office. Ruminski began his career in 1986 in the Washington D.C. Division of the FBI. Since then, he has worked in the Chicago Division of the FBI and FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Today, he leads a diverse team of professionals assigned to fighting domestic and international terrorism as well as combating traditional criminal matters in Wisconsin. (27 min)
