MPTV Held Two-Day Phone Bank

Milwaukee, WI - Milwaukee Public Television will permanently turn off its analog stations WMVS/Channel 10 and WMVT/Channel 36 next week, Friday, June 12, at 9 a.m. The long awaited transition to national digital television broadcasting will be complete that day.

To assist viewers with any last minute questions about continuing their television services uninterrupted, MPTV will staff a phone bank from 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm, Thu., June 11, and 9:00 am - 9:00 pm, Fri., June 12. The number to call on those days is 800-221-1036. Staff and volunteers will answer questions about the analog to digital conversion, converter box operation and coupons, antenna installation, and scanning for digital stations on television sets and converter boxes. Information on how to locate technicians, who will make house-calls to set up television systems, and other topics will also be available.

According to MPTV General Manager Ellis Bromberg, "The analog shutoff is a significant day in television history in Milwaukee. By organizing the phone bank we can help ensure that our viewers get accurate and timely information about how to make the switch, and enable them to find MPTV's new digital stations."

Since its inception, MPTV has educated, entertained and inspired. WMVS, Channel 10, began broadcasting in October 1957 as the 28th educational television station in the nation. Today, Channel 10.1, known as MPTV-HD, mixes quality local and national cultural, minority, public affairs, entertainment, recreation, children's, and life-long learning programming.

WMVT, Channel 36, began service in January 1963. Today, MPTV Digital 36.1 complements MPTV-HD-10.1 with statewide K-12 in-classroom instruction, news and public affairs, sports, classic movies, and more.

Besides Channels 10.1 and 36.1, MPTV now offers viewers a Family of Channels to choose from 24 hours a day, seven days a week: 36.2 MPTV V-me (Spanish language); 36.3 MPTV World (non-fiction series and specials); 36.4 MPTV Create (life-long learning, crafts, and travel), 36.5 MPTV Classical (classical music); 36.6 MPTV Jazz (mainstream jazz); 36.7 MPTV Weather (NOAA weather); and 36.8 MPTV Traffic (Milwaukee-area traffic cams and information).

MPTV is a viewer-supported service of Milwaukee Area Technical College. For more information outside of phone bank hours, contact MPTV Viewer Service at 414-297-7520.
