Keeping Kids' Fingers Toasty Warm is Goal of MPTV Cold Weather Gear Drive

Milwaukee, WI - Continuing its tradition of community involvement, MPTV launches its Mittens & More Drive October 19. The local public television station ran its very successful Mr. Rogers Sweater Drive and Clifford Book Drive for many years. This is the second year MPTV is collecting items to keep children's fingers toasty warm. Adult items are also collected. New winter knit and fleece items can be dropped off at the North, South, West, and Downtown MATC campuses and the Brookfield MPTV Auction site. They will be distributed free of charge to families with need through participating local schools and agencies.

Last year, MPTV was able to supply over 1,400 new mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats, many of them handmade. Program director Darlyne Haertlein hopes to double that number this year by encouraging individuals to collect items from their neighbors, friends, and associates. Children, especially need to stay warm getting to and from school.

Items may be donated from October 19 to 30 at these locations.
