MPTV Launches Healthful Indian Cooking Site

Milwaukee, WI - MPTV has launched a new website for Healthful Indian Flavors with Alamelu. The website is a companion to a new local cooking series hosted by Alalmelu Vairavan, Wisconsin resident and co-author of HEALTHY SOUTH INDIAN COOKING Expanded Edition (2008). It premieres on MPTV 10.1 on Saturday, May 15. The new website includes meal recipes (Cauliflower Rice/Chettinad Chicken Masala/Spinach and Lemon Rice/Eggplant Masala/Lima Beans/Rice Options), information about the host, and links to resources for Indian cooking ingredients and cultural information and events including, kids and corporate cooking classes. Vairavan grew up in the Chettinad region of South India and has been teaching for over 20 years about the health benefits of spices such as turmeric, cumin, ginger, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, coconut power, urad dal, cardamom, curry powder, and other ingredients in her recipes including, broccoli, legumes, beans, rice, and Brussels sprouts. She has appeared on PBS, Discovery Channel, Fox, NBC, and CBS programs and presented a culinary workshop at Manhattan's prestigious James Beard Foundation. She has also contributed several recipes to the American Dietetic Association cookbook and COOKING HEALTHY ACROSS AMERICA. Her other cookbooks are HEALTHY SOUTH INDIAN COOKING (2001, 2003, 2007), and ART OF SOUTH INDIAN COOKING (1997).
The series initial run is six programs airing Saturdays at 11 a.m. and the following Fridays at 6 p.m. on MPTV 10. Episodes will be available to view online after broadcast. Jack Abrams, producer of OUTDOOR WISCONSIN produces the new series HEALTHFUL INDIAN FLAVORS WITH ALAMELU.
