MPTV CHANNEL 36.1 GOES HIGH DEFINITION NEXT MONDAY
February 3, 2011
~ Switch thrown at 6 on February 7, 2011 ~
Milwaukee, WI -- (February 3, 2011) MPTV Channel 36.1 will join sister station 10.1 in broadcasting programs in high definition starting Monday, February 7, at 6:00 a.m. The first program to air on 36.1 HD will be WAI LANA YOGA "Chair Poses." The first program to air on 10.1 HD was the MPTV produced GREAT LAKES GARDENER in 2001. Last September, to prepare for this switch, MPTV realigned its standard definition channels 10.2 World, 10.3 Vme, 10.4 Weather, 36.3 Create, 36.4 Classical, 36.5 Jazz, and 36.6 Traffic to provide an adequate bandwidth allocation for 36.1 HD. High definition has several times more pixels than standard definition which makes the picture much sharper.
According to MPTV General Manager Ellis Bromberg, "We had always intended to transition Channel 36.1 to high definition, but did not have the equipment in place when Channel 10.1 went HD. We were able to include it in this year's budget, however, and the timing couldn't be better. More and more programs, including all MPTV's local productions, are now being produced in HD, and we want our viewers to be able to enjoy them with the best video and audio available -- which is HD."
Later, on Monday evening at 8:00 p.m., viewers of MPTV 36.1 HD can view the MASTERPIECE CLASSIC My Boy Jack, the story of British literary giant Rudyard Kipling's son Jack (Daniel Radcliffe/Harry Potter), who triggers a bitter family conflict when he joins the Irish Guard at the outset of World War I. Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) also stars.
