Mitten Drive Warms Hands and Hearts

Milwaukee Public Television will collect new mittens, gloves, hats and scarves Oct. 10 through Oct. 28 to help families who are in need this winter.

The 4th annual "Mittens and More" community service project is seeking donations of new mittens and other cold weather items from knitting groups, schools, and service organizations as
well as individuals. The greatest need is for children's sizes.

"Our goal is to keep hands and hearts warm this winter," said Darlyne Haertlein, MPTV's community relations manager. "We hope community groups and individuals will work together to make or buy these items for children and families who need them."

In 2010, MPTV received 3,663 donations and distributed them free of charge to 35 agencies and schools. Teachers and service providers were able to give mittens and other warm winter accessories to children and families who didn't have them.

Drop-off sites listed below. Location hours will be available beginning October 10.
