MPTV Children's Contest Showcases Young Writers
October 31, 2011
Southeastern Wisconsin children will once again have the opportunity to create a story and see it told on television by entering the PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest, sponsored locally by Milwaukee Public Television.
The contest is open to children in kindergarten through grade three. MPTV will accept entries from Jan. 1 through March 5, 2012. Local winners will be announced in spring and national winners will be announced in the summer.
Participants are encouraged to begin working on their stories as soon as possible so that they can submit their best effort, said Darlyne Haertlein, MPTV's community relations manager. Last year more than 544 contestants submitted original, illustrated books to the station for judging. This is the 18th year that the station has sponsored the contest.
Kindergarten and first grade stories must be 50 to 200 words in length, and second and third grade stories must be 100 to 350 words. Stories must have at least five original, clear and colorful illustrations. An official PBS KIDS GO! Writers Contest entry form for 2012 with the signature of a parent or guardian is required for entry.
The entry form will be available after Dec. 1 at MPTV.org. For more information, click here
