MPTV Show Explores Brady Street Community
February 15, 2012
A new Milwaukee Public Television series, AROUND THE CORNER WITH JOHN MCGIVERN, will explore the Brady Street community Thursday, March 8, at 8:15 p.m. on MPTV HD 10.1.
Each episode looks at life in one of 13 southeastern Wisconsin communities, exploring what it is like to live, work and play in each area.
McGivern, one of Milwaukee's most popular comic actors, goes behind-the-scenes to find the unique aspects of each community. The 30-minute episodes feature area residents, businesses and favorite pastimes as well as some background information from historian John Gurda.
The Brady Street show looks in on Glorioso's Italian Market with its array of home deli and meat favorites, Fabrizio Cappeli beauty salon, Wolski's Tavern--Milwaukee's neighborhood bar, 50-year-old Zaffiro's Pizza, and a Thai bistro and sushi bar. McGivern also visits Three Holy Women Parish, which unites three of the original East Side Catholic churches, and several other neighborhood landmarks.
Other communities featured in the series are Bay View, Wauwatosa, Riverwest, Cedarburg, Sheboygan, King Drive, Burlington, Racine, Third Ward, Greendale, Lincoln Village and East Town.
John McGivern is the author of several one-man plays and public television productions including the Emmy Award-winning "Early Stories of John McGivern."
