A new Milwaukee Public Television series, AROUND THE CORNER WITH JOHN MCGIVERN, will preview an episode about Burlington Sunday, March 4, at 1 p.m. at Veterans Terrace at Echo Park, 589 Milwaukee Ave, Burlington. The event is free and open to the public.
The series looks at life in 13 southeastern Wisconsin communities, exploring what it is like to live, work and play in each area. The Burlington episode premieres Thursday, March 8, on MPTV HD 10.1 at 7:30 p.m. McGivern, one of Milwaukee's most popular comic actors, goes behind-the-scenes to find the unique aspects of each community. The 30-minute episodes feature area residents, businesses and favorite pastimes as well as some background information from historian John Gurda.
McGivern talks with Burlington's Aquaducks, a national water-ski team, and investigates its annual ChocolateFest, known for supporting community causes as well as drawing 35,000 visitors. The venerable Haylofters community theatre, the local baseball team, and the famous burgers at Fred's Parkview are a few of the other attractions highlighted in the Burlington episode.
McGivern will be on hand for questions and comments after the show. Seating at the preview will be on a first-come basis. Other communities featured in the series are Riverwest, Cedarburg, Sheboygan, King Drive, Brady Street, Racine, Third Ward, Greendale, Lincoln Village, Wauwatosa, and East Town.
John McGivern is the author of several one-man plays and public television productions including the Emmy Award-winning "Early Stories of John McGivern."
