MPTV Website Video Service Captures Speeches, Events

August 1, 2012

Milwaukee Public Television has started College Place, a new web video service that will make selected, noteworthy presentations at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) available on the MPTV website.

College Place is a virtual library providing presentations taped primarily at one of MATC's four southeastern Wisconsin campuses. Students earning Television and Video Production Program degrees at MATC record and edit the programs under station and college supervision. The videos will include a sampling of exceptional speeches, panel discussions, performances and lectures featuring guest speakers and faculty members.

To access the College Place videos, go to MPTV.org and click on the College Place logo. Among the featured speakers are Hollywood actor Ed Begley, Jr.; Will Allen, CEO of Growing Power; and other nationally known figures who appeared at the 2012 Green Energy Summit hosted by MATC in March.

A lecture by Bill Symonds, director of the Pathways to Prosperity Project, also is available. Another video presents a performance by blues artists Jim Liban and Jeff Dagenhardt followed by a discussion session. College Place will add more presentations as appropriate material becomes available.

"MATC offers so many activities that deserve to be shared not only with its students, but also the community," said Kevin Pulz, the MATC instructor who coordinates the student program . "The college provides the events, while MPTV guides the TV students. It's a win-win situation, benefitting students, the college and the public."
