MPTV Film Explores Sikh Persecution
August 10, 2012
A DREAM IN DOUBT, the story of a Sikh man determined to embrace America despite the hate-crime murder of his brother, is available on Milwaukee Public Television's website, mptv.org.
The hour-long documentary will air on MPTV WORLD 10.2, on Sunday, Aug. 12, at 9 a.m., 3 p.m. and 10 p.m.
The film provides insight into the Sikh community as it follows Rana Singh Sodhi, an Indian Sikh who immigrated to the United States to pursue his dreams of a better life. Sodhi's brother was America's first post-9/11 hate crime murder victim. Bound by their faith to wear a turban and beard, Sikhs were often mistaken for Muslims and persecuted after the terrorist attacks.
A DREAM IN DOUBT relates Sodhi's attempts to fight the hate threatening his family and community and his demands that America live up to its ideals. The documentary premiered on INDEPENDENT LENS on PBS.
