Women Find Potential

HALF THE SKY: TURNING OPPRESSION INTO OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN WORLDWIDE will be previewed at MPTV Community Cinema Thursday, Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m.

The event, which includes a discussion of the film, will be at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Drive. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The documentary grew out of a best-selling, Pulitzer prize-winning book of the same name by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. It is a look at how women and girls in developing countries are findings ways to overcome oppression and reach their potential.
The film follows six celebrity actresses who travel to Africa and Asia to meet individuals working to eradicate poverty. They find courageous women who have created real, meaningful solutions through health care, education, and economic empowerment.

Participating in the discussion will be Sebastian Ssempija, Ph. D., Executive Director, Sebastian Family Psychology Practice, and Rhonda M. Ware, Executive Director, Research Center for Women and Girls, Alverno College.

The documentary will be broadcast on MPTV 10.1 HD Oct. 1 and 2 at 8 p.m.
