AROUND THE CORNER Shooting Second Season
September 5, 2012
Camera crews from Milwaukee Public Television are shooting the second season of AROUND THE CORNER WITH JOHN MCGIVERN in 13 communities throughout the state. The new programs will air starting in January.
Each episode will feature a different community. McGivern, one of Milwaukee's most popular comic actors, hosts the series. During the second season, he will explore life in Sherman Park, downtown Waukesha, Walkers Point, Neenah, Port Washington, Wisconsin Dells, Whitewater, downtown Kenosha, Mineral Point, Northern Door County, Waupaca and the Chain of Lakes, and downtown Madison as well as Shorewood.
The series premiered last January on MPTV and visited 13 southeastern Wisconsin communities where McGivern went behind-the-scenes to talk with employers, residents and other people familiar with the locale to discover how they live, work and play.
"John gives the audience an intriguing look at some very special places," said Lois Maurer, MPTV producer and director, "and he finds people who embody the spirit of these communities." McGivern is the author of several one-man plays and public television productions including the Emmy Award-winning "Early Stories of John McGivern."
The first season's episodes will re-air on Thursdays beginning Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. They feature Bay View, Wauwatosa, Riverwest, Cedarburg, Sheboygan, King Drive, Burlington, Brady Street, Racine, Third Ward, Greendale, Lincoln Village and East Town. For dates and times, go to MPTV.org.
Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Drive, will show the original programs in its Innovation Theater starting Saturday, Sept. 22. Discovery World also will sell DVDS of the series in its gift shop. To order a DVD from MPTV, call 414-297-8003 or go to MPTV.org and click on "Store."
