ADELANTE! Studies New Immigration Rules
September 14, 2012
The first program of the new season on Milwaukee Public Television's ADELANTE! will be a special on a new measure protecting young immigrants from removal (deportation). It will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 25, on MPTV HD 10.1, at 6:30 p.m.
Known as "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals," the measure protects undocumented youths who qualify from removal and also provides work permits for them. The new government measure, instituted as a result of an executive action by President Obama, applies to undocumented youths between the ages of 15 and 30.
Joseph Rivas, an immigration attorney, a guest on the show, explains the pros and cons of the new measure. The program also will include highlights of a Voces de la Frontera youth rally in Madison organized to thank the President and a report on a forum to help applicants to fill out immigration forms.
ADELANTE! is now in its 14th season. The weekly, locally produced series celebrates the rich heritage of Latino people. Patricia Gomez is the host and producer.
The program airs in Spanish with subtitles in English. Program segments originally taped in English are subtitled in Spanish.
The immigration special will be repeated Tuesday, Oct. 2, on MPTV HD 10.1. Adelante! programs repeat at several other times and channels. For a complete schedule, go to MPTV.org.
