MPTV Privacy Procedures
Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV), a service of the Milwaukee Area Technical College, is committed to taking all commercially reasonable steps to protect online users’ privacy. MPTV believes in the importance of personal privacy on the Internet and want to assure community confidence, increase participation in online activities and support effective delivery of services. MPTV intends to give you control over your personal information. The purpose of the following is to inform you about the types of information we gather when you visit our site, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of, and your ability to correct, the information:
MPTV collects email addresses to communicate with viewers about topics relevant to the broadcast of programs, community impact of the stations, and viewer interests. If you send us an electronic mail message with a question or comment that contains personally identifying information, or fill out a form that e-mails us this information, we will only use the personally identifiable information to respond to your request and analyze trends. MPTV collects some information that is used for analysis and statistical purposes that help us manage the MPTV Web site. Comments/complaints concerning station programming/operations received by e-mail are subject to the record keeping, public inspection, and public file requirements of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Information that MPTV collects for statistical purposes
MPTV automatically collects electronically generated information about your visit to our site, such as the date, type of browser used, and technical Internet protocol data. We collect this information about each user session from our user logs, and refer to it in summary form for statistical purposes.
Information that you provide us when using our interactive forms and functions
This information may include such things as name, address, telephone number, and other personal and business data, depending on the particular service you use. MPTV collects only that data necessary to provide the service that you are requesting, however, your general computer address information may be used to provide you with various other ongoing services/communications offered by mptv.org.
Control of personal information
At any time while online and accessing our site, any user may decline participation in any activity that asks for information (i.e. survey, e-mail or e-forms). Your choice not to participate will in no way affect your ability to use any other feature on our site. In online applications that ask for personal information, you also are provided the option of canceling or "clearing all fields" of information and terminating the application.
We may use "persistent" cookies (which would reside on the user’s computer) to increase the ease of use of the MPTV Web site. Such a cookie might contain the user’s session ID number, thereby relieving the user of having to enter the number. Under this circumstance, we will only use a "persistent" cookie when you give your permission.
We may use "non-persistent" cookies in applications that keep track of a user’s online session and make it possible for you to complete a form or use a function, but this cookie disappears when you finish filling out an application, or searching a database.
