Great Train Story/Hakone Tozan RR/Omaha Zoo/Puffing Billy

A trip to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry provides an update on the Great Train Story. In Japan, an exciting ride on the Hakone Tozen line--a combination of rack, rail, funicular, and aerial tram ends in an active volcanic region, known as "The Valley of Great Boiling". At the Omaha Zoo, an unusual stream-powered attraction is highlighted; and in Australia, Puffing Billy, one of the oldest operating steam locomotives on the Australian continent is featured. Meitetsu/Meiji Museum/Texas State RR/Sumpter Valley RR/Miniature Wonderland

In Nagoya, Japan, a ride on the Panorama cars of the Meitetsu Commuter line transports visitors to a museum dedicated to keeping the old architecture of Japan intact. In east Texas, where steam is still king, a magnificent ride is taken through the piney woods. On a trip to eastern Oregon, a dedicated group of volunteers work to preserve the steam heritage of the gold fields. And in Hamburg, Germany, the largest HO layout in the world is visited. (2 of 9)

Hesston Steam Museum/Rugen Island RR/Tennessee Valley RR/Shinkansen

The Hesston Steam Museum in Indiana is visited. On an island in the Baltic Sea region, a ride on the Rugenish Kleinbahn offers spectacular views. The Tennessee Valley railroad is visited. In Tokyo, a ride on the Shinkansen bullet train moves riders in record speed. These are the fastest trains that run on rail. At headquarters, a behind-the-scenes look reveals what it takes to keep the high speed trains in service. (3 of 9)

Grand Canyon Hotels/Umekoji Steam Museum/Wolsztyn Steam RR/Seffton Prewar Trains

The historic and opulent railroad hotels near the Grand Canyon are explored. In Kyodo, Japan, shrines, temples, and Japan Rail's steam museum are visited; their locomotive heritage is nicely preserved, including such famous engines as the C57, known as "The Lady" for her beautiful lines. In Poland, the Wolsztyn RR is highlighted, and a stop in Sacramento includes a look at the Seffton Prewar Train Collection. (4 of 9)

Conway Scenic Railway/Cuba/Yamaguchi/Kenosha Transit

In New Hampshire, a portion of the remaining Maine Central Railroad, now the Conway Scenic Railway is explored. In Cuba, where steam railroading is prevalent in the sugar fields, an excursion into the western and central regions reveals the country's beauty. In Japan, the famous steam locomotive, the Yamaguchi Go is back in regular service on southern Honshu after riders convinced Japan Rail to re-establish service. Back in Wisconsin, a look at how Kenosha Transit keeps things moving with reinstituted trolley cars. (5 of 9)

Mt. Rainier Steam/Kato Hobby/Copper Canyon/Union Station

An old logging railroad in the shadow of Mt. Rainier is visited. In Tokyo, Japan, the flagship store of a premier model builder of model trains is profiled--including a look at their exemplary layouts. In Mexico, the Copper Canyon, which is deeper, wider, and longer than the Grand Canyon provides an exciting ride. And in Washington, DC, a stop at the most visited site--Union Station. (6 of 9)

Ireland/Whiskey River Rr/Odakyu Rr/Heber Valley RR

A breathtaking steam trip is taken through Ireland's beautiful Suir Valley countryside. In Tokyo, an excursion on the Odakyu line quickly transports riders around the city. The Odakyu is one of the express commuter lines around Tokyo, and noted for its unique open fronted railcars. In Utah, the steam trains of the one-hundred-year old Heber City Railroad are explored. Whiskey River is a 15 inch gauge live steam operation in Wisconsin. (7 of 9)
